Keep hearing about the benefits of using retinol in your skincare routine? Not sure whether you should be using it or how you can incorporate it into your skincare? Worried about what percentage retinol you should use and how safe it is to use retinol? We’re here to answer all your questions and dispel the common myths of this increasingly popular skincare product.

What is Retinol?
Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A and a powerful ingredient that has become increasingly popular in skincare products. Retinol has been proven to provide a variety of benefits to the skin, making it an essential ingredient in any effective skincare routine. Using retinol can even improve and maximise your results of other treatments that we offer at CK Skin Clinic such as HydraFacials, microneedling and dermaplaning, all of which you can enjoy at our Cheltenham skincare clinic in Greater Norwood Street.
What Are the Benefits of Retinol?
1. Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
One of the most well-known benefits of using retinol is its ability to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Retinol works by promoting collagen production, which is essential for maintaining the skin’s elasticity and firmness. As we age, collagen production decreases, leading to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. By using retinol, you can help stimulate collagen production, resulting in smoother, more youthful-looking skin. We advise anybody over the age of 21 (who is not contraindicated) to use retinol. What percentage retinol you should use depends on many other factors which we will discuss later.
2. Improves skin texture and tone
Retinol is also effective in improving skin texture and tone. By promoting cell turnover, retinol helps to slough off dead skin cells, revealing brighter, smoother skin. It can also help to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation, such as age spots and sun damage, resulting in a more even skin tone.
3. Minimises the appearance of pores
Retinol is also effective in minimizing the appearance of pores. By promoting cell turnover, retinol helps to unclog pores and reduce the production of sebum, resulting in smaller, less noticeable pores.
4. Helps to prevent acne
Retinol is also effective in preventing acne. It works by unclogging pores and reducing the production of sebum, which can lead to the formation of acne. Retinol can also help to reduce inflammation, which is often associated with acne breakouts.
5. Boosts skin hydration
Retinol is also effective in boosting skin hydration. By promoting cell turnover, retinol helps to improve the skin’s ability to retain moisture, resulting in softer, more supple skin.
Is It Safe to Use Retinol?
It’s easy to see why we love retinol and when incorporated properly into your routine, it is safe to use retinol even on a daily basis. However, it’s important to start slowly and build up your tolerance to avoid any irritation or sensitivity.
If you’re looking to achieve healthier, more radiant skin, incorporating retinol into your skincare routine is a must. We can help you understand exactly which products to use if you’re still feeling unsure. Just book in for a skin consultation in our Cheltenham skin clinic and we will happily guide you through the process.
